Email is the primary means of communication between the Athletics and Recreation department & team representatives.

Full time Macdonald students are eligible to take part in intramurals activities. In addition McGill Students, Staff, Staff family and alumni may be admitted through the Recreation Coordinator where space permits. Playing someone who has not been cleared results in a forfeit.

Intercollegiate athletes are welcome to participate, however they may not participate in a sport for which they have represented the University during the current academic year. Individuals are deemed ineligible for participation in an intramural sport after having appeared on the roster for one or more regular season or post-season intercollegiate games unless cleared in advance through the Recreation Coordinator.

When a player has registered for a particular team, they become a permanent member of that team. Anyone playing on more than one team within a particular sport becomes an ineligible player.

A team must forfeit any contest in which it uses an ineligible player. That player is ineligible to participate in that activity for the remainder of the season.

Anyone participating in an intramural activity could be required to present their validated McGill student identification card to the officials prior to the start of any game. Failure to comply with this rule may result in an automatic ineligible status for participation in that game.

All participants should be familiar with the general rules and regulations that govern Macdonald Intramural activities.

If a team fails to appear with the minimum number of players required to begin the activity within fifteen (15) minutes of the scheduled time, the referee shall declare a default in favour of the team ready to play.

When a team requests a postponement: The postponement must be made by the Captain or Alternate through the Recreation Coordinator at least 48 hours before the scheduled game..

An attendance record of all players is kept even in the case of a default. There shall be no appeal procedure for a defaulted game.

A player shall be considered ineligible to take part in the playoffs if they have not played in at least 40% of the regular season games.

Intramural activities are completely voluntary. McGill University (Macdonald Campus) assumes no responsibility for injuries received during Intramural activities.

The intent of the Intramural Sports Program is friendly competition. Self-control and proper conduct are required at all times. Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in suspension from further participation in the program. Teams are also responsible for the behaviour of their spectators.

Team Captain and Alternate Captain & Officials section

It is the team captain’s responsibility to check the eligibility of ALL his or her team members. This can best be done by recording proper name & student id number from the student id card.

Captains must make every effort to inform team members of the general rules and regulations that govern Macdonald Intramural activities.

Captains must have enough players to field a complete team for the entire season. (A firm commitment!)

The Captain must make sure the team registration form is at the Athletics and Recreation Office before the entry deadline, ensuring to include each player's full name, student number, program & year, phone number or address & department in the case of no phone. Only complete entries will be considered.

Paying the team entry fee at the Athletics and Recreation Office upon submission of the team entry form.

Attending or sending a suitable representative to any Captains' meeting, which may be held one week prior to the start of the league or any special meeting to deal with league matters.

Placing a shirt number beside the names of the members who are present on the score sheet before each game. This must be done even in the case of a default.

Being aware of the all Intramural rules and in particular, those governing eligibility, postponements, defaults, etc., ensuring that other team members know the rules.

Having all team members appear on time, ready to play (this means full equipment where applicable). In ice hockey, it is advisable to have players arrive at least 20 minutes before game time.

Being a responsible leader. It is through the team's comments, criticisms and suggestions that the Intramural program will become a better. Make feedback available to the league or Recreation Co-ordinator.

Only the captain or assistant captain may represent the team at the Athletics and Recreation Office

Only participants of the two contesting teams in the particular sport league may protest the eligibility of another team or team member

One (1) default will result in a penalty of $25.00 plus taxes. The next default will result in EXPULSION of the team from the league.

A team that has been expelled, may have the opportunity to re-register by paying an additional full registration fee with permission of the Recreation Coordinator. The team must re-enter within 48 hours of the expulsion and a team will only be allowed to re-enter once in that activity. When a team requests a postponement: The postponement must be made by the Captain or Alternate through the Recreation Coordinator. There must be a valid unforeseeable reason. It must be made at least 48 hours prior to the requested postponement. The game will be rescheduled if it is possible and necessary (affects the standings).

If a team feels that a referee has misinterpreted a rule, they may decide to protest the game. The game must be completed and the protesting side notify the officials before the teams have left the playing area.

All protests must be submitted in writing to the Intramural Program Director within 48 hours of the game in question. The protest will be reviewed by the League Coordinator and Recreation Coordinator. The parties concerned will be notified of the ruling on the protest.

Basic equipment for games is supplied. Personal equipment is the responsibility of the individual.

All active members of the championship teams and champions of the individual sports will receive a Macdonald Campus Intramural Championship mug. There will also be an Athletic and Recreation Awards Banquet at the end of the intramural year honouring winning teams and athletes.
